8 and Under Program
LHA's U8 Program is its very foundation - the base upon which it builds its travel and house teams. The USA Hockey Initiation Program is designed for players 5-8 years old. It encourages a non-competitive environment in which children can learn the basic skills without the distractions that are often associated with an over emphasis on winning. Mastery of fundamental skills and the fun of playing are essential to the development of a lifelong interest in hockey.
Ages
8U registrations are being accepted for birth years 2015-2019 for the upcoming fall hockey season.
(Please note: 2019 birth year registrations are subject to final approval by the LHA Hockey Director and the LHA 8U Director)
When
The 8U season begins the first weekend of October with evaluations. Team rosters will not be finalized until the end of October.
The season will conclude the second weekend in March
Where
Practices will be held at The Ice Ranch for a majority of the season. There may be a weekend or two where practices will move to Edge Ice Arena.
Practices
- Beginner - Saturday and Sunday
- Intermediate - Thursday, Saturday, Sunday
- Advanced - Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Any player in their final year of 8U has an optional additional skate on Friday mornings at Edge Ice Arena.
Jamborees and "Friendlies"
Jamborees are tournament-like events held at various times during the season. LHA hosts the Winterfest Jamboree the second weekend in December.
Advanced and Intermediate teams will play half-ice games.
Beginner teams will play cross-ice games.
In addition to jamborees, LHA will host and travel to other associations during the season for competition known as "Friendlies".
LHA does not permit 8U teams to travel out-of-state.

Extra Costs
Extra costs include tournament entry fees, protective gear, equipment, travel and possible hotel stay.
